Subtraction Statement Sums Without Borrow
In statement sum we are given a statement. We have to analyse the statement and then take appropriate action.
Following steps are required to solve the statement
1. Read the statement carefully
2. Find the values that are given
3. Find the quantity which is required
4. Then perform the process to reach the desired result.
Let us consider the following example;
Reena's sister had 15 story books and she gave 3 story books to Reena. How many story books are left with Reena's sister?
1. We will first analyse the statement
2. We will find the values that are given
In the question it is given that
Reena's sister had 15 story books and she gave 3 story books to Reena.
So, No. of story books Reena's mother bought = 15
No. of story books given to Reena = 3
3. We will find the quantity which is required
In the question it is asked that
How many story books are left with Reena's mother?
To Find No.of story books left
We will perform subtraction as we are supposed to find the no. of story books left
15 - 3 = ?
We will perform the required operation
On solving we get
Hence the story books left with Reena's sister are 12.
